Drumming Extravaganza

At St Giles Primary School we offer a broad and balanced curriculum to all pupils and where possible employ experts to deliver specialist subjects. One such person is Paul from Derbyshire Music Partnership who comes on Tuesdays with Caroline to support him. Paul has been teaching music to our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils for a number of years. Over a two year cycle he teaches whole class Ukulele one year and Djembe and Samba drumming the next. This year, Year 3 and Year 4 are learning drumming and have just completed their first 15 weeks of Djembe. Visitors to Collective Worship

Collective Worship is a very important part of daily life at St. Giles. We follow Values for Life, with each half term having a different value, which is chosen by the children taking part in a democratic vote. Not only do we follow Values for Life, but we are supported by a range of visitors who bring their own unique style of worship into school. This term we have ‘Chalked The Door’ with Father Mark. This special service is celebrated at Epiphany. which marks the visit of the Wise Men to Jesus. A New Term - New Topics

It has been an exciting start back at school after the Christmas break – not only have we had the excitement of Mr Cullington joining us as the teacher for Class 3, but all three classes have dived straight into new and intriguing topics. Our blog this week will give you a flavour of just what’s being explored and investigated by the children. Class 1 and 2: Rio de Vida Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 held a carnival where they dressed in their most colourful party outfits, waved flags, made headdresses.
