Week one and we're off!
Everyone has settled in really well and more importantly are happy to be at school.
The children seemed pleased to be back at school and lessons started straight away. This year we have some really exciting topics across all classes which will be engaging, expressive and innovative while maintaining our high standards and expectations. For more information on what your child’s Topic is this half term click here.
We all came together on Tuesday in Collective Worship to find out what we had all been doing over the last six weeks. As a school we have visited many places over the holidays and had many new experiences. We have been to America, Beamish, Biggin, Bournemouth, Canada, Cornwall, Cumbria, Eastbourne, Edinburgh, France, French Alps, Greece, Italy, London, Mablethorpe, Milton Keynes, Minorca, Newcastle, Norfolk, Northern Ireland, Northumberland, Portsmouth, Scarborough, Scotland, Skegness, Southport, Vietnam, Wales, Warrington, Weymouth and Whitby. It was great to hear of all the travels.
However closer to home the children have been involved in many interesting sports events. Lucy Newberry was invited to the Sports Talent Academy with other gifted sports students from around Derbyshire, she was joined by Amelia who started Lady Manners. Felix and Joe were trained at Matlock Rugby Club by New Zealand professional trainers and obviously learned the Haka! Willow was offered a place at Queens Park trampoline academy and Rocco has had trials for Derbyshire County Cricket. We really do have some very talented children at St Giles School.
Our Reception children have been fantastic for their first week and are a joy to have. By day three at playtime they had all decided they were roaring dinosaurs and found it very amusing to frighten Mrs Swift on the playground. Mrs Swift said, “While I knew they weren’t dinosaurs there were times when I wasn’t sure and I was almost certain there were at least four Velociraptors roaming the playground”.
After School Club and Breakfast Club are now being run by solely by School and this week we interviewed and appointed our new After School Club leader. We are very excited to announce After School club will be run by Emily who will be starting on 19th September. When numbers increase a member of school staff will join Emily to assist her in our exciting daily programme of rotated activities. If you’d like to come and have a look to see what we do at both Breakfast Club and After School Club please feel free to drop in.
There is a new vibe at St Giles and we can feel the positivity. Our school value for this half term is Generosity .The children came back motivated and ready to learn.
Class newsletters will be with you over the next few days and there are ‘Meet your new class teacher’ meetings on Wednesday 14th September at 5.30pm and 5.45pm if you would like more information or to ask questions – but watch out for Dinosaurs!
