At St Giles Primary School we offer a broad and balanced curriculum to all pupils and where possible employ experts to deliver specialist subjects. One such person is Paul from Derbyshire Music Partnership who comes on Tuesdays with Caroline to support him. Paul has been teaching music to our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils for a number of years. Over a two year cycle he teaches whole class Ukulele one year and Djembe and Samba drumming the next.
This year, Year 3 and Year 4 are learning drumming and have just completed their first 15 weeks of Djembe. On Tuesday morning they showed off their skills with a wonderful concert for their parents, friends and grandparents.
It was very impressive to see how well they focused, singing along, following the adults and playing in two and three different groups.
After half term they will be starting Samba.
Key Stage One will be having a taster Samba workshop with Paul as part of their Rio De Vida topic in two weeks’ time.
Music tuition is also offered in school by Mrs. Hooper who is our peripatetic piano and woodwind teacher.
