World Book Day 2018

After a delay due to the snow, we finally celebrated World Book Day. Almost everyone dressed up as their favourite book character (including the teachers!), and the school was a riot of book related colour.

In Class 3, many of us dressed up as our favourite book characters and there were a range of different costumes on show, including Ms Whithorn and Mr Cullington who both dressed up as spotty dalmatians from our class book 'One Hundred and One Dalmatians.'

In the afternoon, the girls from Class 3 joined the infants and the boys from the infants joined the boys in Class 3 to spend some time reading some adventure books together. The boys started to read a Secret Seven book involving having a tree house for their meetings. When the boys meet next week, we will have to remember the password to be allowed in to hear some more!

When Class 3 were back together, we spent some time making some flip books; when you flip the pages the little character moves until all the pages have been flipped. The children were very creative with some of their drawings.

In Class 4 we explored Steampunk Art, a style firmly rooted in Victorian mechanical devices, and used this to redesign the cover of Cogheart, by Peter Bunzle. This book has kept us glued to our seats for the last few weeks.

Finally we held a book themed cake sale. Lots of the children had shown some real Bake Off Showstopper talent to design cupcakes based on books and book characters. A huge THANK YOU to all who baked, bought and ate as we have raised an amazing £60.70 to spend on books for the school
