Tuesday 12th June was Pirate Day for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. There was a great deal of excitement as everybody arrived dressed as pirates and lots of shouts of “Shiver me timbers” and “Walk the plank” amongst other pirate phrases.
To begin the day, we talked about what we already knew about pirates and then we moved around a variety of pirate activities that included looking into a treasure chest and finding out pirate facts, making telescopes and preparing treasure map paper.
After playtime, we designed and made pirate flags and hats and we made treasure maps with different geographical features.
After lunchtime, all those large boxes that we had asked for were turned into large-scale pirate ship models. The test of if they had been built to be strong enough was whether they would be damaged when hit by cannon balls (footballs!)
We all had a great and I think we all wished that everyday could be pirate day!
Thanks to all parents who supported us so well by sending junk modelling materials in and sorting out brilliant pirate costumes for their children.
