Welcome back everyone!
It is lovely to see all the children back in school looking like they've enjoyed the sunshine over half term.
Class 1 and 2 had a super start to the term this week. As part of our new topic, entitled, ‘Muck, Mess and Mixtures,’ the children participated in a range of mucky and messy activities!
The day started off with a search around the school grounds for clues which contained phrases like ‘snakeskin cereal’ and ‘gloop the loop’. After finding the clues, we discovered that a book called, ‘Monster Max’s Shark Spaghetti’ had been delivered to the classroom. We read it and discovered that it was all about monsters and revolting mixtures!
The children then engaged in activities such as creating a meal perfect for a monster, making a monster mask and exploring different mixtures from cold, boiled spaghetti, slime to baked beans! It was a really fun day and the children behaved and participated brilliantly! Well done everyone!
Class 3 started the term as explorers. There were some fantastic explorer costumes on Tuesday as we got outdoors to explore the continents and oceans and try some food from each continent. We zoomed in to North and South America and identified which hemisphere they are each in and which countries are in each continent. Finally, we settled down for our new topic 'Road Trip USA' by visiting 14 US states and finding them on the map!
Class 4 are entering the fantasy realm of Alchemy Island. In order to start our quest, we have to enter the island via a portal, which brings us out at the Ancient Citadel, on a quest for gold.
We have been exploring the grounds of school to discover where we might leave Matlock. Here are some of the places we have found. We have used digital photography to edit our portal images.
