World Book Day 2022

Across the school a whole host of exciting book based activities took place. The children dressed up and looked incredible as characters from their favourite books.

World Book Day was so much fun in Class 1 and 2 today. Everyone came dressed as characters from books. We chose the author, Julia Donaldson to base our learning around for World Book Day. Our work is displayed in the courtyard and in the Class 1 and 2 classroom. We are very proud of our writing and our art work.

This morning we listened to Julia Donaldson read one of her books, The Teenie Tinie Genie. We then read to each other in small groups and discussed the books we were reading. Class 2 completed a book review about another Julia Donaldson book called The Scarecrow’s Wedding and Class 1 did their book review about their own favourite book.

We love reading! We love books! We love World Book Day!

Class 3 looked fantastic in their costumes on world book day. We started off with a masterclass from author Nadia Shareen, who wrote one of the books you can get free with your token this year! She taught us about using illustrations to tell part of your story and we had a go at writing our own story inspired by her world of 'Grimwood'.

Later in the day we had a book picnic to share the books we brought in from home and to discover some new reads we might like to try out.

As well as dressing as their favourite book characters, Class 4 explored the poem 'I Met a Dragon Face to Face' By Jack Prelutsky; a wonderful description of the adventures you can have when reading a great book.

I met a dragon face to face

the year when I was ten,

I took a trip to outer space,

I braved a pirate’s den,

I wrestled with a wicked troll,

and fought a great white shark,

I trailed a rabbit down a hole,

I hunted for a snark.

I stowed aboard a submarine,

I opened magic doors,

I travelled in a time machine,

and searched for dinosaurs,

I climbed atop a giant’s head,

I found a pot of gold,

I did all this in books I read

when I was ten years old.

They turned this into an illustrated flip book, using DT and art skills. A real success, I'm sure you will agree.

We also watched the BBC Live Lesson for World Book day and created adverts for our favourite books.
