Science Week - Curiosity
For science week class 4 looked at a couple of things.
How do birds do it? And is talking important?
Firstly, we looked at how birds build a nest, their material they use and its size and then had a go at building one, easy right? 🪹
Wrong, the extra challenge was to build the nest using only a beak (a clothes peg)
We all see on realised how tricky it was to weave a successful nest. But we defiantly gave it a good go.
One child was heard saying “How great are our hands” after battling with just a peg!
The other challenge was into how important is talking, for some in class 4 I think very, judging on their chats in class…
But this time we were looking at communication in team work. We had to draw a picture with everyone holding the pen at once. Drawing as accurately as possible.
We then had a go at drawing while we could talk, which proved more successful (I think?). You can judge.
Tag rugby finals
On Tuesday 10th of March, 8 children from class 4 attended a tag rugby tournament held at Matlock RUFC. The children played matches against other local schools in a group stage with the hope of reaching the semis and then the final.
We played 5 matches, each 10 minutes long. The children were brilliant, having a mix of experienced rugby players and total novices. All the children played brilliantly, showing wonderful skills and excellent sportsmanship towards each other and the opposition.
Unfortunately, we missed out on the finals by drawing in our last match, but this doesn’t take away from the wonderful performance of the children. I was incredibly proud of each player. Well done.

World Book Day
We had great fun celebrating world book day in class. Check out our awesome costumes
Building bridges
In DT, class 4 have been looking at structures, specifically, bridges. We have looked at beam bridges, arch bridges and truss bridges.
We were challenged to make a truss bridge out of spaghetti and masking tape. This was a challenge but we found they were much stronger than expected. The triangular design allows for weight to be spread evenly from a single point to a wide base.
Sports hall athletics finals
8 children from class 4 made the trip to Anthony Gell school to take part in the sports hall athletics district finals. Children competed in track and field events, throwing jumping and running. The children were brilliant and competed with enjoyment, enthusiasm and determination.
Well done to you all!!
