Spirituality St Giles
St Giles staff recently welcomed Liz Seymour (Acting Director of Education) to lead a whole-school INSET day focused on spirituality and what this looks like within our school community.
During the day, all staff worked collaboratively to explore and define what spirituality means at St Giles and how we would like our children to understand and experience it throughout their time with us. Through thoughtful discussion and reflection, we identified four key words that shape our shared understanding:
Ourselves – developing self-awareness, reflection and an understanding of our own thoughts, feelings and values.
Beyond – experiencing awe and wonder, asking big questions and exploring things that inspire and challenge us.
World – recognising our place in the wider world and developing an appreciation for creation, diversity and responsibility.
Others – building empathy, compassion and positive relationships within our school and beyond.
We have shared this language with the children and have begun embedding spirituality across the school. Our displays reflect these four key themes and help children make meaningful links in their learning, encouraging them to recognise spiritual moments in everyday experiences.
This is an ongoing journey and we are excited to see how spirituality continues to grow and flourish at St Giles.
