ππReading Volunteers ππ
Our children benefit immensely from having volunteers who help in various ways in school. The skills, experiences and dedication our volunteers bring are greatly valued by both the children and staff and we are therefore reaching out to invite parent volunteers to come into school and help us.
We are currently looking for reading volunteers. If you have some time to spare and would like to get involved in supporting our children’s literacy development, we would love to welcome you into school. As a reading volunteer, you would listen to individual children read, offering encouragement and guidance to help them build their confidence and fluency.
No prior experience is necessary—just a love for reading and a desire to help our children succeed! Your time and effort would make a huge difference in their progress, and it’s a wonderful way to be involved in the school community.
Here are a few details to keep in mind:
• Days and times: We are flexible with days but ask for any volunteers who would be available in an afternoon.
• Commitment: an hour or two can be incredibly valuable, and we will work around your availability.
• Training: There will be a short safeguarding and reading session (tea and cake will be provided π«π§) which will be led by Miss Simpson. This session will be no longer than 30 minutes. Once we have interest we will provide a date for this training. You will also be required to undertake Prevent Training and read some of our school policies.
If you are interested in volunteering, please let us know by contacting the office either in person or via enquiries@st-giles-matlock.derbyshire.sch.uk with your interest and availability.
Thank you for considering this opportunity. Your support can have a lasting impact on our students' love for reading and their academic journey.
