Latest News!
Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning to celebrate the grand opening of our nursery! It was heartwarming to see so many parents, teachers, community members, and friends gathered in support of this milestone.
This moment has been a long time in the making, and many of you know just how much dedication and effort have gone into bringing our nursery to life. Though the journey has had its challenges, each step has been incredibly rewarding. Our driving force has been the commitment to creating a safe, joyful, and nurturing environment where children can grow, learn, and play.
We’re immensely grateful to our academy trust and our Local Academy Committee (LAC) members for believing in this vision and for providing the resources and encouragement to make it a reality. Their support has been invaluable, and we thank them sincerely for their partnership.
Our heartfelt thanks also go to our incredible staff, who have worked tirelessly, often late into the evening, to bring this vision to life. From the initial planning to preparing classrooms and adding the little touches that make the nursery feel like home, their passion is truly what makes this space come alive.
And to our community and parents: thank you for trusting us. Your belief in our vision motivates us daily to create the best possible environment for your children. We can’t wait to watch them grow, learn, and thrive in this wonderful new space.
This nursery is more than just a building; it’s a place of discovery, imagination, and friendship. A place where young minds will take their first steps into learning, laughter, creativity, and exploration. We’re confident that St Giles Nursery will become a cherished part of our community.
Thank you all once again for being here to mark this special beginning with us and for the Mayor of Matlock for officially opening our nursery doors. Here’s to a bright future filled with joy and wonder! β¨

ππ€©CALLING ALL PARENTS, CARERS AND GRANDPARENTSπ€©π
A gentle reminder that this Friday (25th October) we have our Book Look and Stay and Play followed by the PTFA celebration in the school hall.
We value the importance of parental involvement in school life and believe that by sharing your child's work and books and providing opportunities for you to come into school, it will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of their development and learning journey at our wonderful school.
This is an opportunity for your child/ren to show you around their learning environment and an opportunity to celebrate their work.
On the day, please sign in at the school office and our friendly office staff will show you to the classrooms. After you have spent time in your child's classroom please make your way through to the hall where you will be greeted by the wonderful PTFA team.
Thank you,
Miss. Simpson and the St Giles Team π

ππReading Volunteers ππ
Our children benefit immensely from having volunteers who help in various ways in school. The skills, experiences and dedication our volunteers bring are greatly valued by both the children and staff and we are therefore reaching out to invite parent volunteers to come into school and help us.
We are currently looking for reading volunteers. If you have some time to spare and would like to get involved in supporting our children’s literacy development, we would love to welcome you into school. As a reading volunteer, you would listen to individual children read, offering encouragement and guidance to help them build their confidence and fluency.
No prior experience is necessary—just a love for reading and a desire to help our children succeed! Your time and effort would make a huge difference in their progress, and it’s a wonderful way to be involved in the school community.
Here are a few details to keep in mind:
• Days and times: We are flexible with days but ask for any volunteers who would be available in an afternoon.
• Commitment: an hour or two can be incredibly valuable, and we will work around your availability.
• Training: There will be a short safeguarding and reading session (tea and cake will be provided π«π§) which will be led by Miss Simpson. This session will be no longer than 30 minutes. Once we have interest we will provide a date for this training. You will also be required to undertake Prevent Training and read some of our school policies.
If you are interested in volunteering, please let us know by contacting the office either in person or via enquiries@st-giles-matlock.derbyshire.sch.uk with your interest and availability.
Thank you for considering this opportunity. Your support can have a lasting impact on our students' love for reading and their academic journey.

ππ Encouraging a Love for Reading at St Giles ππ
For those families who are new to our school we would like to introduce you to our ‘Bedtime Books’. ππ»
Inside each bag you will find:
π 1 brilliant book to share (kindly donated by our wonderful Friends Of St Giles PTFA)
π« 1 scrumptious hot chocolate to have whilst listening to the story
π» 1 cuddly bear to snuggle whilst listening to the story
We encourage you to read the book together with your child, whilst enjoying the delicious hot chocolate and cuddling up to a teddy. This shared experience will strengthen your child's reading skills and create a joyful bonding opportunity.
As a school we would like to emphasise the importance of instilling a passion for reading in our children. Reading not only enhances their language skills and comprehension abilities, but it also broadens their horizons, sparks creativity, and nurtures a love for lifelong learning.
Here’s a lovely picture of some of our children enjoying their yummy hot chocolate, story and bear!π» Even bear got to have some of the hot chocolate!
